(Def, Tar, Frame Drum)
The Def is a large circular drum with the frame made out of a hardwood, and the skin (or membrane) made of goat or fishskin. Unlike other percussive instruments, the frame drum has a very soft and gentle quality to it’s tones – and has a melodic tonality. Nearly every culture on earth has a frame drum of some variety, with very different playing styles to match this instruments cultural diversity.
